The 2010 National Final

The National Final was hosted by the Invercargill Irish Society over the weekend of June 4-6, 2010. Young women of Irish birth or descent were competing for the honour of being the New Zealand Rose of Tralee, to succeed Lisa Monaghan.

The Events

The weekend got underway with the Roses gathering at the Ascot Park Hotel on Thursday afternoon for a briefing and outline of the arrangements for the remainder of the weekend.

From there it was off to Waxy O'Shea's in town for a fun evening, and to meet the Rose's Escorts.

Friday was a busy day spent 'out and about' - a visit to 'Sweet Treats' to test their skill at chocolate making. After lunch it was off to a Mayoral Reception at the Council, then to Bluff to see where Highway 1 starts.

Friday night was "performance night". It was a chance for the girls to show their talents and to meet many of the locals as well as some of the supporters of the other Roses.

That left Saturday. That meant rehearsals for the selection Grand Ball, and hair and makeup, and meeting the Rosebuds, and, and, and. ... NERVES!

But finally Saturday evening arrived, and the Grand Ball was the culmination of the weekend, with grand entrances for the Roses, to the delight of the large audience, individual interviews on-stage, and, finally, the announcement of the 2010 NZ Rose of Tralee.
