The National Final is being hosted by the Hutt Valley Irish Society over the weekend of June 3-5, 2011. Young women of Irish birth or descent are competing for the honour of being the New Zealand Rose of Tralee, to succeed Elizabeth Sara.
We have a full programme of events.
The weekend gets underway with the Roses gathering at the Angus Inn on Friday morning for a briefing and outline of the arrangements for the remainder of the weekend.
From there it was off to Wellington for a brief sight-seeing tour, which will end with lunch at D4 in Wellington.
The afternoon continues with a tour of Te Papa and then a 'High Tea' at the Museum Hotel. The afternoon finishes with a 'shopping' stop at Kirkcaldie and Stains.
Friday night is "performance night" at the Hutt Valley Irish Society. It is a chance for the girls to show their talents and to meet many of the locals as well as some of the supporters of the other Roses.
That leaves Saturday. Which means a busy day with rehearsals for the selection Grand Ball, a visit to Butlers' Chocolates in Queensgate , a tour of the Dowse Art Gallery, and then lunch with members of the Hutt Valley Irish Society. The afternoon is for interviews and hair and makeup, and, and, and. ... NERVES!
But finally Saturday evening arrives, with the Grand Ball at the Amora Hotel as the culmination of the weekend, with grand entrances for the Roses, individual interviews on-stage, and, finally, the announcement of the 2011 NZ Rose of Tralee.
